The ceremonial inauguration of the first ever MSc in Physiotherapy programme
in Sri Lanka was held on 29th January 2022 at the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Peradeniya.
The profession of physiotherapy is rapidly changing in all areas of the world. Though physiotherapy education has developed
to doctorate levels in other countries, there was long demand and need for postgraduate programmes in physiotherapy in Sri Lanka.
The Department of Physiotherapy is always in the forefront of generating new knowledge and providing opportunities for continuous
professional development programmes for physiotherapy professionals.
As a leading institution in Sri Lanka, University of Peradeniya proudly inaugurated the first ever MSc programme in Physiotherapy in
Sri Lanka to cater the long demand of physiotherapy profession in Sri Lanka. This is a historical landmark in the history of physiotherapy
in Sri Lanka. This MSc programme is a two years programme comprised of course work, clinical work and research work. This will uplift the
standard of the physiotherapy profession further assuring more quality physiotherapy service to the society and the country.
The ceremony was graced by the Vice Chancellor of the Univisersity of Peradeniya – Prof. M.D. Lamawansa as the chief guest and Senior Consultant
Orthopaedic Surgeon - Dr. H.J. Suraweera as the guest of honour and with the presence of Deputy vice chancellor of the University of Peradeniya -
Prof. Terrence Madhujith, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Deans of other Faculties of University of Peradeniya, Head of the
Department of Physiotherapy, Professors and senior academic staff members of the Faculty of Allied Health sciences.
